Dark Side of the Moon was the eighth album from Floyd, released on 1st March 1973 and as the name suggests took the band on a meandering journey through some rather dark, personal and at times painful subject matter.
Always pushing boundaries the album employed advanced recording techniques of the time incorporating multi track recording, whilst analog synths were prominent throughout and even samples of interviews with the bands road crew provided rather philosophical quotations.
Dark Side of the Moon entered the Billboard Chart in 1973 and has incredibly stayed there for over 900 weeks since. It doesn't take much working out but that's over 17 years that this incredible work of art has spent in the US Chart.
From their formation in 1965, four young students took Pink Floyd from London's underground clubs to worldwide acclaim with their own brand of progressive and psychedelic music. Incorporating sonic experimentation, philosophical lyrics, extended compositions and elaborate stage shows, Pink Floyd is a band that will remain forever ice cold cool.
